Updating Attorney Information

Last Updated April 7, 2010

The Attorneys screen allows you to enter all of the information pertaining to the attorney(s) athat collect delinquent taxes for jurisdictions associated with your tax office.  You can also deactivate an attorney in this screen.

Once you have added or deactivated an attorney, be sure to go to the Jurisdiction screen and select the attorney in the Attorney field for each tax unit having that law firm as its delinquent attorney.  If no attorney is assigned to a particular jurisdiction, TaxLedge will assume the withholding percentage is to go to the jurisdictions rather than an attorney; these amounts will appear as fees on the Remit screen.

To add a new attorney :

  1. On TaxLedge’s Main Menu bar, select Maintenance, then select Attorneys. The Attorneys screen will be displayed.
  2. You will want to verify that the attorney is not already in the system.  Do this by following these steps:
  • Press F7.
  • Enter the attorney's full name in the Firm Name field.

Note :  You can also put the first part of the name with percentage signs (%) before and after to search more easily (for ex., %Linebarger%).  Also, the search is case-sensitive, so be sure to enter capital letters where necessary.  To see all attorneys, just press F7, then F8.

  1. Press F8.  If a "...Query caused no records to be retrieved.." message appears in the status bar, then the bank is not in the system and you may add it.
  2. If you had no records retrieved for your search, click the Ctrl + Q (or the Cancel Query button).  You should now see a blank screen.
  3. If attorney information did appear as a result of your search, press F6 (or the Insert Record button). You should now see a blank screen.

Note: Unless otherwise instructed, press Tab to move to each field.

  1. Enter the Name for a person at the attorney's office.
  2. Enter the Firm Name.
  3. Enter the law firm's street address.
  4. Enter the law firm's City, State, and Zip Code in the appropriate fields.
  5. Enter the Begin Date of the firm's work as a delinquent attorney associated with that tax office.
  6. Enter the Withholding Percentage that is a part of the attorney's contract:  15% or 20%.
  7. Press F10 to save the information.

You cannot delete an attorney, but you can deactivate an erroneous or expired attorney record.  You may need to do this, for example, when the delinquent attorney for a jurisdiction changes.  If this happens, you need to de-activate the old attorney and add the new one (if that new one is not already in the system).

To deactivate an attorney:

  1. On TaxLedge’s Main Menu bar, select Maintenance, then select Attorneys. The Attorneys screen will be displayed.
  2. You will want to verify that the attorney is not already in the system.  Do this by following these steps:
  3. Press F7.
  4. Enter the attorney's full name in the Firm Name field.

Note :  You can also put the first part of the name with percentage signs (%) before and after to search more easily (for ex., %Linebarger%).  Also, the search is case-sensitive, so be sure to enter capital letters where necessary.  To see all attorneys, just press F7, then F8.

  1. Press F8.  The attorney's information should appear.  To see all attorneys, just press F7, then F8. You can click the Next Record ( ) button as necessary to find the attorney you need.
  2. Enter the End Date of the firm's work as a delinquent attorney associated with that tax office
  3. Press F10 to save the information.
