Choosing a Deposit Type

Last Revised: July 13, 2015

You can make only one type of payment in each deposit. For example, if you select Online Payment as the Deposit Type, you can use that deposit to make Online payments, but not to make transfer payments.

Choosing a deposit type in ACT 7 is done in the Deposit Control screen when you first create a deposit.

  1. Click the Deposit Type list in the Deposit Control screen.
  2. Select one of the following deposit types:
  1. Ag Rollback Payment - For processing agricultural rollback payments for current and delinquent years. Payments made by both the owner and alternate payers are supported, as are selective payments (by year and jurisdiction), overpayments, and partial payments. For more details see Processing an Ag Rollback Payment.
  2. Issue Refund - For issuing individual refunds.
  3. Refund Fix: Refund deposit for fixing refunds. For tax offices having the client preference DEPOSIT_AUTO_NAME set to Y, these deposit names will start with FX.
  4. Lockbox - Use this to inquire on payments that have been made via a lockbox process.
  5. Online - For most over-the-counter payments and mail-in payments.
  6. Reversal - For reversing a payment made in another deposit, usually due to a bad check or an incorrect payment entry. The reversal is complete in the sense that payments previously applied to tax levy, penalty and interest, and other fees are also reversed. There is no limit to the number of reverse payments that you can process in one deposit.  You can also reverse more than one payment at a time.
  7. Returned Item - If you do not want to mix reversals of bad check and incorrect payments in the same deposit type, you can use a Returned Item deposit type for the bad check (NSF) transactions. You then have the option of running the Returned Item (Reversals) report for just returned item transactions or both bad checks and incorrect payments.
  8. Returned Item - ECheck - If you want to separate echeck reversals from other remittance types, select this type.
  9. Reversal Ag Rollback - For reversing a payment made for ag rollback receivables.
  10. Special - For applying a payment in any way desired to a particular account, ignoring the standard allocation rules applied by the ACT system and for applying bankruptcy payments. Special payments using ag rollback funds must use a Special Ag deposit type.
  11. Special Ag - The same as Special, except that this type allows payments of ag rollback funds. Other funds cannot be paid with this deposit type.
  12. Tax Certificate - For paying tax certificates that were not paid at the time of issuance.

Note:  Most tax office employees may choose to use the Tax Certificate Payment screen instead of opening a Tax Certificate Deposit.

  1. Transfer - For transferring previously collected monies within an account or between different accounts, years, jurisdictions, fees, etc.
  2. Transfer Ag Rollback - For transferring previously collected monies for ag rollback receivables.
